The Poor Mans Paint Job
Six Month Update

As six months has passed since I first completed this paint job write up, I figured it was a great time for an update.
The car is still looking good, but it indeed has some flaws. Namely the bumpers. There is a style indent in them that I simply sanded over, not in, and this led to the biggest problem with the paint I have encountered yet. Near this style indent where I did not sand properly the paint has chipped off, pretty bad actually. I use the self serve spray wash to clean my car quite often and that does not help either. The paint just comes flying off near the poorly sanded area. Although I think all that is going to come off, has come off.
This is an excellent testament to how important the sanding preperation is!

Here are some pictures

As you can see, the body of the car is in excellent condition. The shine is still there and the paint has held up through a Colorado Winter very well.
I am also an avid Autocrosser. I have nailed a few cones in this before and they leave a pretty hefty mark. It rubs right off, no worries.
However, this is a photo of the area of the bumper I had discussed above. As you can see, more sanding prep work was needed.

As opposed to sanding in all of the grooves seen abover I sanded over them with a flat palm as I did my prep work. Well, lesson learned.
I plan on putting down at least 2 more coats on the car as well as 3 more on the bumpers to toughen them up a bit as I repair this mess.

All in all I am still very happy and very proud of my bit of work here. Sure the bumpers look pretty shoddy but you live and learn right? Once I repaint them and add a coat or two to the car, it will look like new again and be more resiliant to chipping and the elements than ever. I will be sure to update again soon!
